Masaa 2016

Video, 4:06

A group of men carry a big sculpture from it's place in the garden. What is at the center of this action is the carrying itself. The group is formed by the sculpture and its weight. In return, the sculpture gets legs, movement and lightness.

The sculpture is "Syllable"- by the Israeli modernist sculptor Yechiel Shemi, from 1981. Shemi was an important sculptor, one of the leaders of abstract sculpture in Israel. Many of his works were looking for the lightness of the metal- a material that is essentially heavy.

The title of the video- "Masaa" means 'her journey' and 'her weight' in Hebrew- refers to my position as a young female artist in relation to the local art history.

The soundtrack contains original recordings of metals, that create a composition that is constructed and deconstructed during the video in respect to the action.
