A collaboration with Julia Keren Turbahn

TOUR AGENCY was founded in the summer of 2017 by the artists Tal Alperstein and Julia Keren Turbahn working across Berlin and Tel Aviv facilitates Guided Tours via instant messaging. 

 

Imagine a guided tour where someone using a messenger service is guiding you in a certain location at any time during the day that is suitable for you. Using words only a whole world of touristic images and sensual experiences will unfold for your imagination. Instead of the constant overflow of images we are bombarded with all the time, telling us how something should look like, killing our own fantasy of imagining a desired destination.

 

TOUR AGENCY is a multimedia lecture performance giving an Insight into the philosophy of our Agency. For that purpose we examine the act of tourism as a form of performance. Using live performance, scholar lecture and moving images we talk about the different components of tourism. The touristic location can be thought of as the scenography where you stage a cultural identity, and the guide can be thought of as a choreographer maneuvering the tourist as a performer. The Performance deals with the way images and media forms our behavior and plays with live tributes to moving images and investigation of video projections.  

The work was presented in Hmidrasha Gallery, Tel Aviv, Israel, and was supported by Mifal HaPais Council for the Culture and Arts and Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts.
